Geomagic parent 3D Systems acquires French 3D-printing company

3D Systems (NYSE: DDD), the Rock Hill, S.C.-based 3D-printing technology company that last year acquired Morrisville’s Geomagic, has added another company to its portfolio: Phenix Systems.

3D Systems3D Systems has completed a non-material acquisition of the French 3D-printer provider, paying $15.1 million for 81 percent of the share capital. 3D Systems has launched the process for a simplified takeover bid, in accordance with the French Markets Authority.

The move would strengthen 3D Systems’ offerings and position it with opportunities to grow its manufacturing output, according to a securities filing.

Phenix Systems designs and manufactures Direct Metal 3D Printers that print fully dense metal and ceramic parts from very fine powders, meaning instant direct-manufacturing opportunities.
