Trending 3D Modeling Softwares in April 2016

One year ago we first looked at what the preferred 3D modeling softwares were of our customers. Now it’s time to look at how it has changed over the course of one year.

No surprises at the top, the winner is SolidWorks again. The well-known professional CAD suite from Dassault Systèmes even managed to increase its relative market share by 0.9 percentage points to 18.6% since last year. In its footsteps SketchUp fell back almost 3 percentage points, but still managed to hold onto the silver. Continue reading “Trending 3D Modeling Softwares in April 2016”

Wire-feed additive manufacturing might be the future of metal-based 3D printing

Of all of the areas that have seen a lot of attention in the additive manufacturing space, the use of metal in the additive manufacturing process has not seen nearly enough attention as it should be. While the ability to ‘3d print a metal object’ is more complex and costly than thermoplastic parts, the finished products are arguably much more usable and long-lasting. Materials Science Is the New Black: 3D and 4D Printing the Future

A jet engine, a racecar and a running shoe walk into a bar. Well, not really, of course, but all three are benefiting from futuristic concepts and innovations coming out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Self-Assembly Lab, a cross-disciplinary research facility that operates under the school’s architecture department… Continue reading “Materials Science Is the New Black: 3D and 4D Printing the Future”

Building the future: 3-D printing promises to transform manufacturing industry

Behind the glass of an SUV-sized printer, a laser fuses fine powders of steel and tungsten, layering the material and building items from the ground up. The finished products, displayed neatly on a nearby table, range from the intricate — a safety device for nuclear weapons — to the simple — a basic counterweight. What Fashion Designers are doing with the latest developments in 3D Print Technology

Designers and engineers have now been using 3D printers for over a decade to create prototypes, small parts and also just purely experimental pieces. Since 2010, the cost of 3D printers has decreased dramatically to a fraction of the price, now making it possible to buy yourself a desktop 3D printer for your home or studio.
