Sjef van Gastel, Lector Innovatieve Productietechnologie / Ir. at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, presents during the 3D Printing Materials Conference: “3D printing in machine industry: criteria for success”.
Additive manufacturing (3D printing) offers many new capabilities and features compared to conventional production technology. However, most designers and engineers are trained in traditional production technology, making these new capabilities remain untapped. The lecture will discuss the characteristics and capabilities of 3D printing for engineering and its impact on the design of machine parts. The methodology to identify parts which are the most eligible for redesign for 3D printing will be explained with reference to a number of examples.
About Sjef van Gastel
Sjef obtained a Master’s Degree (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology in 1977. He has worked in several engineering and technical management positions in production mechanization and automation at Royal Philips Electronics (NL). About Fontys University of Applied Sciences
Fontys Hogescholen (Fontys University of Applied Sciences, or ‘Fontys’) is one of the largest Dutch universities, with campuses located primarily in the south of the Netherlands. Despite the large student numbers, education at Fontys is organized on a small scale. At Fontys, internationalization is a key issue. We offer English-language education to foreign students who wish to follow complete course programs and/or to foreign students visiting us as exchange students. Quality is the key feature of the Fontys vision. We strive to achieve a level of quality that will match that of any higher education institution in the European context.
